On Thursday, August 17, 2023, CNUE hosted the “2023 2nd University Development Strategy Forum” at the SBS Cultural Foundation Hall in the library. Twenty-seven participants, including the president, department heads, new appointees, and team managers, who attended this forum reviewed the status of the major tasks (development plans) and plans of each department and discussed ways to strengthen inter-departmental cooperation for the implementation of the development plan. In addition, the Department of Planning introduced research on reforming the teacher education system and the 6th core competencies assessment for teacher training institutions and asked for active cooperation from each department for better performance. President Lee Ju-han remarked, “This forum was a memorable opportunity to introduce new faculty members who will be joining us on September 1, 2023, to the major projects and development plans of the university and discuss future developmental strategies. This is a challenging period for us, but I ask for the interest and support from all university members for the university’s future.”

The “Conversation with the President” event hosted by the Faculty Council was held at Irum Hall at the Music Hall on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, to discuss the crisis response strategies and future directions of the university. This event was attended by approximately 40 faculty members, including President Ju-han Lee and Professor Sung-je Bae, who heads the Faculty Council. Questions prepared through a preliminary survey on course management, mid- to long-term university development plans and visions, plans for the development of the Graduate School of Education, and measures to support the welfare of university members and teaching, research, and student guidance activities were followed by a session where the President shared his responses and plans. Professor Sung-je Bae, the head of the Faculty Council, said, “I thank the faculty members who participated despite their busy schedules, and I hope that this gathering will help present future directions of our university in difficult times.” President Ju-han Lee remarked, “I send my gratitude to the head of the Faculty Council and other board members for hosting this Conversation with the President. I will do my utmost best to have more opportunities to communicate and develop our university in the future.”

On June 8, 2023, a ceremony was held to present the Sojeong Scholarship and Sojeong Naerisarang Scholarship to students. The ceremony used to be held annually on Teacher’s Day but was held in June this year in consideration of the students’ comprehensive practice period (May 8 to June 2). The Sojeong Scholarship is a university scholarship granted by the Sojeong Scholarship Fund, which was founded by emeritus professor Sang-sin Lee of the Department of Korean Education, who created the fund using her donation to the university development fund (a total of 114 million KRW donated from May 2009 to May 2022) and named the fund after her pen name. Students have continued to receive the Sojeong Scholarship for 14 years since 2010. Sojeong Naerisarang Scholarship [7th President: Jong-geon Lee (Matriculating Class of 2014, Department of Korean Education, Teacher at Donghae Joongang Elementary School)] is a self-organized scholarship fund founded by the recipients of the Sojeong Scholarship from 2010 to June 2023 to follow the vision of their mentor, Professor Sojeong Sang-sin Lee. All the members of the fund are currently teachers at elementary schools around the country who graduated from this university. Since its first scholarship student (Student No. 1) in 2015, the fund has granted scholarships to its second group (Student No. 2) in 2016, third group (Students No. 3 and 4) in 2017, fourth group in 2018 (Students No. 5 to 7), fifth group in 2019 (Students No. 8 to 10), sixth group in 2020 (Students No. 11 to 13), and seventh group in 2021 (Students No. 14 to 16). In 2023, the scholarship was granted to four students for the ninth time (Students No. 22 to 25). President Ju-han Lee participated in the “NO EXIT” online campaign to prevent drug crimes. The “NO EXIT” online campaign is co-hosted by the National Police Agency, the Korean Association against Drug Abuse, and other relevant organizations to prevent drug crimes by calling attention to and raising awareness of the dangers of drug addiction. “We will do our best to create a safe environment where children and youth can grow without worrying about drugs,” said President Ju-Han Lee. President Ju-Han Lee participated in this campaign after being nominated by Heon-young Kim, the President of Kangwon National University. President Lee appointed Yang-hee Choi, the President of Hallym University as the next participant. Professor Sung-je Bae Elected as the President of the National Universities of Education Faculty Council Professor Sung-je Bae, the head of CNUE’s Faculty Council, was elected President of the National Universities of Education Faculty Council on May 9, Tuesday, and will be serving his term for a year. After being elected, President Sung-je Bae said, “I feel a great sense of responsibility to take on this important role in a time when national universities education across the country are facing a crisis where they have to think about survival rather than future development. I will strive to defend the autonomy of universities and academic freedom and improve the rights and welfare of professors in universities of education in this country.”
