Professor emeritus at the Department of Science Education Nam-il Kim donated two million KRW to the Eureka Scholarship. First proposed by professor emeritus Byeong-gi Chang at the Department of Science Education, the Eureka Scholarship is one of the representative “departmental scholarships” created with donations from professors emeritus Dae-hyeong Lee and Nam-il Kim, current professors Myeon-woo Lee, Hye-kyung Yoon, and Heon-woo Park, and fellow Department of Science Education alumni. Since 2008, the scholarship has been integrated into the university scholarship program and granted to students at the Department of Science Education under the name of “Eureka Scholarship.” The scholarship fund currently amounts to 80,300,000 KRW. Professor Nam-il Kim has contributed to the Eureka Scholarship every year since 2008, and his personal donation amounts to 29,000,000 KRW. Professor Nam-il Kim remarked on his intention of donating by saying, “I hope that the Eureka Scholarship will be given to students at the Department of Science Education who face financial difficulties at home and be of help in their studies and daily lives.” President Juhan Lee expressed his gratitude and remarked, “We hope for more attention and encouragement for the future of CNUE and our students.”

CNUE celebrated its 84th anniversary (March 26) on March 27, Monday through an event held at Ilji Hall, Hongik-gwan. In this commemorative event, seven appreciation plaques were awarded to staff members who worked for over thirty or twenty years. Scholarship certificates (Yoon Yeong-ho Scholarship, Seokwoo Alumni Scholarship, and Alumni Association Scholarship) were also awarded to 11 students. In his commemorative speech, President Juhan Lee said, “Just as the university has seen many ups and downs in its 84 years of history, I hope that we can all respond well to the current crisis and make an effort so that the university can further advance,” and congratulated the recipients of the appreciation plaques and scholarship certificates. Jeong Seung-hui, the President of the Alumni Association, also commented, “My fellow alumni and I will support the university to take the lead under the banner signaling that ‘Education is hope.’”

The 38th Department of Arts Education Graduation Exhibition hosted by CNUE’s Department of Arts Education will be held for eleven days from Tuesday, April 4, 2023, to Friday, April 14, at the Exhibition Hall on the second floor of the Student Support Center, Chuncheon National University of Education. Twenty-six fourth-year students at the Department of Arts Education participated in this exhibition, titled “The Other Space,” where they will exhibit diverse and sensual works in five different genres - painting, design, photography, ceramics, and traditional Korean painting. The opening event will be held on April 4, Tuesday at 5 pm at the Exhibition Hall.

KNUE hosted the 2022 Commencement Ceremony on February 21, Tuesday at Seokwoo Hall, Seokwoo Building. 422 students, including 101 masters and 321 undergraduates, received degrees in the ceremony, which was the first in-person commencement ceremony to be held in four years and was attended by the university president, the president of the alumni association, the president of the Gangwon-do Division of the Korean Federation of Teachers’ Association, and the appointed professors and department professors. In his commencement address, President Lee Juhan delivered a message of encouragement to all graduates, commenting, “You should be proud of yourself, and I hope that you firmly believe in yourself. Every one of you has the right and ability to do so.”

The Financial Support Project Team hosted the “2022 Financial Support Project (National University Development Project, University Innovation Support Project) Performance Forum” on February 16, Thursday at Ilji Hall, Hongik Building. This Performance Forum was held to identify, share, and promote best practices in the 2022 National University Development Project and the University Innovation Support Project. In the forum, presentations were given on best practices from the National University Development Project (① Experience Small Schools (Office of Academic Affairs), ② Gangwon Children’s Festival (Office of Student Affairs)) and the University Development Project (① Career Capacity DNA Program for the Teacher Certification Exam (Office of Student Affairs), ② Transformational Capacity DNA Program for Curriculum Innovation (Office of Educational Innovation). Presentations by the grand prize winners of the participant essay contest ([① The Frog Jumps out of the Well and Hops along to a Small School! (Essay on the Small School Internship Program), ② An Heart-opening Class (Essay on the Campus Class Design Competition and the National University of Education Class Research Competition). President Lee Juhan opened the Performance Forum by saying, “I thank the faculty members who have worked endlessly for the 2022 Financial Support Projects and the students who participated. I hope we can continue such excellent projects in 2023 to strengthen the public role and competitiveness of the university.”
